Understanding the Significance of Water Baptism
Some do not quite understand the purpose of water baptism. To understand the purpose of water baptism we will examine the principal scripture surrounding it to see why it was established and why even Jesus Christ participated in it. Water baptism is to visually preach the gospel… identifying with Jesus Christ.
Have you ever thought about getting baptized but have too many questions unanswered? We love to help you understand a bit more about its significance—the next step in your journey to following the footsteps of Jesus.
Purpose and Significance
It originated with John the Baptist and what earned him the title “The Baptist” John was widely known for baptizing people in the river Jordan and Jesus himself was baptized. He was not a sinner, yet he humbled himself in obedience to identify with us and give us an example to follow.
“At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan” (Mark 1:9) (in blue color and in design font).
Water baptism connects us to the body of Christ and declares you’re a follower of Jesus Christ. It is a public confession of your faith in, and commitment to, Jesus Christ. It is the next step after salvation through repentance, faith and is an important foundation for Christian life. Water baptism is a practical demonstration of a spiritual reality already taken place in your life.
“For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form on body…” (1Corinthians 12:13) (in blue and design font)
